Steve Hutchinson Steve Hutchinson,
left guard

Ht.: 6-5. Wt.: 313 pounds.

College: Michigan.

Experience: Fourth season.

Nickname: "Hunch," "Hutch" or "Captain Caveman."

What he does best: Strong, talented and as competitive as any lineman in the game. Hates to be beaten on a play, and it hardly ever happens. Takes sacks, tackles for loss, missed assignments personally. He came back from a broken leg in 2002 to become an All-Pro last season. One of the better athletes on the team. Work ethic is celebrated by his coaches.

Where he needs improvement: Has a tendency to get too excited and at times seeks to completely level his opponent rather than use fundamentals.

The Lav Line: "When you’re a great athlete, and you have that competitive streak in you, you don’t accept missing a block. That’s his mentality. It drives him up a wall. It’s a tremendous quality to have."

— Jose Miguel Romero

Bill Laveroni gives his comments in The Lav Line. The past two seasons, Laveroni was the team’s assistant line coach, and he takes over this season for Tom Lovat, who retired. Lovat spent 12 years working for coach Mike Holmgren.
