Blair-LaBounty, 29, qualified for the Sydney team in the final event of the trials, the 800 meters, where she clocked a 2:14.24 to secure the berth. She won the 1996 Olympic trials to become the first woman since 1983 to beat Jackie Joyner-Kersee, two-time Olympic champion. Blair-LaBounty finished eighth in Atlanta, then won the national title in 1997 and '98. She suffered a spinal disk injury that sidelined her in '99. In January of 1998, she married Seahawk defensive end Matt LaBounty.
