Betsy McCagg
Kirkland
Rowing, women's eight
Lake Washington has proved to be one of the world's most prolific training waters for rowers, but few have pulled the oars at a high level for as long, or as well, as Elizabeth "Betsy" McCagg. McCagg, 33, will be at her third Olympics. A Lakeside School and Harvard graduate, she was a member of the women's eight that finished sixth in Barcelona and fourth in Atlanta. She has been on the national team 13 years, and was named USRowing's female athlete of the year in 1995. Before every race, Betsy eats eight vanilla wafers and chews a stick of Carefree bubble gum.
