Artistic gymnastics The artistic discipline includes three types of competition. In team competition and around individual competition, gymnasts perform on each apparatus and their scores for each are combined. In individual competition, athletes compete on a single apparatus. The competition area is a 12-meter square with a 1-meter-wide safety border.
