Personal: Lives in Redmond with wife, Erie, and their son, Kohto. Served as a broadcaster for 1998 and 2000 World Series for NHK Television. Has written three books, including "My Way to Study English."

2005 outlook: Hasegawa was sensational in 2003 (1.48 ERA in 63 games), but had a rough 2004 season (5.16 ERA). He'll pitch mostly during the seventh and eighth innings. Hasegawa can go more than an inning, but last year pitched exactly 68 innings in 68 appearances.
