Personal: Lives in La Canada, Calif., with wife, Heidi. Dobbs was drafted by the Mariners in the 52nd round of the 1996 draft, after graduating from Canyon Springs (Calif.) High School. He chose to enroll at Riverside (Calif.) Community College instead, then went to Oklahoma. He was drafted in the 10th round by the Astros in 1999, but again chose to stay in school.

2005 outlook: Dobbs has hit for average at most of his minor-league stops, but not with much power. He hit .226 in 53 at-bats last season for the Mariners. If he makes the team, it will be as a pinch-hitter.
