In the Mariners 4-0 loss to the Angels, Seattle accumulated only five hits against Angels starter John Lackey. Lackey pitched a complete game, walking two and striking out four. The M's starter Gil Meche pitched five innings, giving up three runs on six hits and only striking out one.

Seattle has used the same five starters all season long, which puts them on track to become just the second club since 1904 to use the same starters for an entire season. That matches the ML record for fewest starters used in a year, as only four teams have used the same five starters all season since 1900 (the last team to do it were the Dodgers in 1966).

In the M's 12-0 loss to the A's on September 21, four of the six pitchers who threw for Seattle gave up at least one run and two pitchers gave up more than four runs. Between the six hurlers, they only struck out three batters while giving up 15 hits.

In getting his 17th win of the season, Jamie Moyer also won his 10th game of the year at the Safe and got his 14th straight victory over the Baltimore Orioles. For the year, Moyer is 17-6 with a 3.59 ERA and 110 strikeouts.

Bret Boone's walk off home run in the 13th inning on April 13 was the first walk off home run since Mike Cameron homered in the 19th inning on August 1, 2000 to beat the Red Sox 5-4. It was the 46th walk-off home run all-time for the Mariners and the fifth at Safeco Field.

With his start last night, Randy Winn became the 20th different player in 27 years to start for the Mariners in left field. Phil Bradley has the most consecutive starts in left for Seattle with three (1985-87). Winn went 3-for-4 on the night, including a double in his first at-bat with the M's.
