August '04: Ichiro en route to MLB record
It was more of the same in August for the M's, with the exception of red-hot Ichiro. The Mariners right fielder tore up August with an astounding 56 hits, hitting .463 for the month. Ichiro is currently on pace to beat the all-time record of 256 hits in one season held by George Sisler in 1920.
But there was more big news for the M's. Edgar Martinez announced he will retire at the end of the season and Seattle officially inducted Jay Buhner into the Mariners Hall of Fame.
