Stop 3 Ginkgo Interpretive Center, Vantage Even if you don't care about petrified wood, there are two good reasons to visit this center, less than a mile off I-90: 1) a sensational view of the majestic Columbia River; and 2) good bathrooms located in a separate building. The interpretive center itself (suggested donation: $1) is state-run, and has good exhibits of the varieties of petrified wood discovered in the area and a well-done, 14-minute video. It's open on weekends only during the winter. The Stop 3 site we recommended in 2002: Washtucna School.
