Star Times players are selected from King and Snohomish counties after the regular season by Seattle Times sportswriters and editors.
PLAYERS
Mark Gray
Issaquah, QB, 5-9, 160, Sr.

He might have been the smallest starting QB in his conference, but nobody played bigger. Third-year starter guided Eagles to KingCo 3A title and state semifinals. Completed 155 of 224 passes (69 percent) for 2,635 yards and 26 TDs. KingCo 3A Offensive Player of Year.

Johnie Kirton
Jackson, RB, 6-3, 248, Sr.

Rushed for a state-best 2,675 yards this fall, one short of state record. Also ran for 34 touchdowns and played DE. First-team, two-way All-WesCo player led Jackson to its first state-playoff berth. Deciding between scholarship offers from Washington, Washington State and Oregon.

Glenn Gallagher
Edmonds-Woodway, RB, 5-11, 175, Sr.

Second-leading rusher in the Seattle area gained 2,278 yards on 279 carries (8.2 average). Scored 26 touchdowns and had three games with more than 300 rushing yards, with a long gain of 95. First-team All-WesCo running back. Has not decided on college plans.

J.R. Hasty
Bellevue, RB, 5-11, 200, Jr.

Son of former NFL player James Hasty, J.R. is quickly making a name for himself. Led KingCo 3A in rushing, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Of all the fine RBs to come through Bellevue, he might be the best. Has carried 208 times for 1,842 yards and 24 TDs as Bellevue seeks third straight state title.

Jeff Fritchman
Lake Washington, WR, 5-10, 160, Sr.

After missing his junior season while recovering from a serious knee operation, Fritchman returned even better. Caught 126 passes for 1,639 yards and scored 13 TDs. Shattered state record for catches (94) in a season. His 126 receptions were second all-time nationally.

Blake Ferguson
Issaquah, WR, 5-10, 165, Sr.

Few receivers this season were as slippery or as quick as Ferguson. Shifty senior has knack for making big plays, often turning short catches into big gainers and giving Issaquah one of the state's most potent offenses. Caught 55 passes for 1,134 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Bobby Dockter
Kamiak, OL, 6-5, 290, Sr.

Coaches consider him the best lineman in WesCo. Stanford agreed, giving him a football scholarship. First-team All-WesCo selection the past two years. Boasts a 3.6 grade-point average.

Tyler Ashby
Ballard, OL, 6-5, 308, Sr.

One of the biggest and most physical players in KingCo 4A, Ashby was named first-team all-conference at offensive guard. Major reason why his team led KingCo in total offense with 354.2 yards per game during regular season. Will play for Washington next year.

Casey Bulyca
Woodinville, OL, 6-7, 290, Sr.

Tallest player on this year's team battled through a shoulder injury early in the season to have an excellent year. Anchored a line that helped Falcons rush for an average of 264.2 yards, tops in KingCo 4A. Has accepted a scholarship to Washington.

Steve Palmer
Bothell, OL, 6-3, 255, Sr.

Best lineman on conference's best team was a three-year mainstay for back-to-back KingCo 4A champion Cougars. From guard position, he led way for ground game that did most of its damage between the tackles. Never missed a start in two seasons while Bothell went 22-2.

Phil Hayes
O'Dea, OL, 6-5, 300, Sr.

A tough guy to move around, Hayes is a dominant presence on the line. He creates big holes for several Irish running backs, and O'Dea coach Monte Kohler said he has stepped up his play during the playoffs. First-team offensive tackle in Metro League Mountain Division.

Ace Younggren
Snohomish, K, 5-11, 177, Jr.

Named first-team All-WesCo for second straight year. Kicked 11 field goals, tops in the area, with a long of 42 yards. Also kicked 30 extra points. Most important, he kicked winning field goals against Stanwood and Lake Stevens, getting Snohomish into district playoffs.

ALL-PURPOSE
K.C. Herren
Auburn, 6-1, 205, Sr.

Rarely left the field for Trojans, playing wide receiver, halfback and defensive back in addition to handling punting and kicking duties. Defensive Back of Year in SPSL North and first-team wide receiver. Plans to play football and baseball at Washington.
