WIAA/Seattle Times State Athletes of the Week

Class 4A

Jesse Clark, Mount Spokane football — Clark set Greater Spokane League records for receptions in a season (52) and career receiving yards (1,819) with seven catches for 140 yards in a 24-14 victory over Central Valley.

Jamie Geissler, Mead cross country — Geissler, who previously won the Greater Spokane League championship, finished first in the tough Eastern Regional meet to establish herself as a favorite in this weekend's state championships in Pasco.

Class 3A

Michael Kilburg, O'Dea cross country — Kilburg became the first O'Dea runner to win a Sea-King District championship, covering 3.11 miles at Lower Woodland Park in a personal-best 15 minutes, 54 seconds.

Kari Pierce, Hanford soccer — The team captain had her fourth consecutive hat trick, scoring four goals to raise her season total to 34. Her career total of 100 goals is remarkable, considering that she tore her ACL and missed her sophomore season.

Class 2A

Peter Cruickshank, Cashmere football — Cruickshank carried 15 times for 209 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-14 Pear Bowl victory over Cascade (Leavenworth), breaking the all-time, 11-man state record for career touchdowns. He has 85.

Katie Campbell, Deer Park cross country — Campbell won a district championship by 50 seconds over the next-closest finisher, helping the Stags win their first district team title. She is unbeaten in Great Northern League competition.

Class 1A

Robert Reyes, Warden football — Reyes helped Warden reach the playoffs for the first time since 1989 in a 31-6 victory over River View. He ran for 170 yards and a touchdown, kicked a 37-yard field goal and two extra points, made eight tackles, recovered a fumble and broke up four passes.

Micha Gross, Forest Ridge volleyball — The senior captain led the Raiders to a perfect league record (11-0) with 15 kills, 20 digs and three aces in a victory over Cedar Park Christian. She was an Emerald City League first-team selection for the third straight year.

Class B

Justin Blake, Lake Quinault football — Blake ran for 221 yards and four touchdowns on 14 carries, intercepted two passes and returned one 84 yards for a touchdown as fifth-ranked Lake Quinault beat No. 3 Clallam Bay 64-52.

Sharelle Wells, Riverside Christian volleyball — Wells had 18 kills and four blocks to lead the Crusaders (10-1 league, 19-3 overall) to a victory over Touchet, which had lost only once previously. She also had 10 kills in a win over Lyle.

The WIAA/Seattle Times State Athletes of the Week are selected by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and The Seattle Times from nominations by athletic directors around the state.
