Class 4A
Molly Gordon, Kentlake girls soccer: The junior had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory over Auburn Riverside, and two assists in a 3-1 win over Auburn. Gordon is the team leader in assists for the Falcons (8-2-2 overall, 5-1-1 league), who lead the South Puget Sound League North Division. Ryan Self, Skyview boys golf: Self, a junior, won a district title with a 3-under par 68 at Mint Valley Golf Course to lead the Vancouver school to the team championship. He won the 15-team Thunder Invitational and 11-team Prairie Invitational earlier this season, and was medalist in four of seven league matches. His season average is 35.5 for nine holes. Class 3A
Sarah Primrose, Issaquah volleyball: Primrose, a junior, had 34 kills, 20 digs, six aces and five blocks in two matches as the Eagles (8-5, 7-5 KingCo 3A) extended their winning streak to five matches. In a must-win match against Cedarcrest, she averaged almost eight points per game, an extraordinary average. Al Valencia, Selah football: Valencia, a senior filling in for an injured teammate, had six catches for 136 yards, including a 58-yard touchdown, in a 27-0 Mid-Valley League victory over Hanford. He also kicked three extra points, had 55 yards in punt returns and was a key factor on defense. Class 2A
Heather Magnusson, Mount Baker volleyball: The freshman had a combined 12 blocks and 10 kills for the Deming school in North Cascades League matches against Blaine and Meridian. Michael Lodell, South Whidbey football: Lodell rushed for 237 yards on 29 carries and scored three touchdowns in a 46-14 North Cascades League win over Granite Falls. He has rushed for 200 or more yards in five games this season and has more than 1,200 yards this season for the Langley team. Class 1A
Shana Smith, Columbia-Burbank volleyball: The junior had 49 kills and 27 aces while helping the Coyotes (11-1, 8-0) clinch the SCAC East championship and win the East Valley (Yakima) Invitational. They beat Class 2A power Connell for the tournament title. Steven Vandenburg, Northwest Christian cross country: Vandenburg, a senior, broke the course record by more than a minute at the Northeast League championship meet in Colfax. His time of 16 minutes, 4 seconds shattered the previous record of 17:10 and led the Colbert school to the team title. Class B
Danielle Ansotigue, Christian Faith volleyball: The senior had 38 digs, 10 kills, 10 aces, five blocks and three assists last week. One year after going 1-17, the Eagles (9-4, 6-3) lead the Sea-Tac League North Division. Philip Kurbis, Evergreen Lutheran boys soccer: Kurbis scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Kent View Christian, lifting his season total to a school-record 21. The junior co-captain has 36 goals in three varsity seasons for the Des Moines school. The WIAA/Seattle Times State Athletes of the Week are selected by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association and The Seattle Times from nominations by athletic directors around the state.
