Golf bargains


Golf isn't cheap, but the bargain hunter can find some good buys. Here are some:
  • Wayne Golf Course, Bothell. $10 greens fees Mondays (except holidays) but must tee off by noon.

  • Avalon Golf Course, Burlington, a 27-hole layout, has an all-day rate of $32 Monday through Thursday. On Wednesdays, Canadian money is accepted at par.

  • The two "Woods" in Lacey - Meriwood and the new adjoining Vicwood - combo rate. Monday-through-Thursday, range balls, walk Vicwood, eat lunch, play Meriwood in mandatory motorized cart, $73 ($85 if cart taken on both courses). Rates are $87 and $99 Friday through Sunday.

  • McCormick Woods, Port Orchard, $25 if you tee off after 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday in May. All-summer early-bird rate is $25 if you tee off before 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

  • Monroe Golf Course, junior rate, $6 for 9 holes after 4 p.m.

  • Bogey Bear city golf program for inner-city kids - West Seattle, Jackson Park and Jefferson Park. Kids in program can play city courses for $5 if they tee off between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays in summer. Cost of par-27 courses is $3 for Bogey Bear participants.
