Questions for candidatesWhat are the biggest differences between you and your opponent(s)? Values: I'm not a self proclaimed moderate, I have strong values and beliefs and will stand by them, popular or not I will legislate my conscience. My opponent is a career politician who is too easily manipulated by unilateral interests. What are your highest priorities for state government? If you had to close the projected $1 billion gap between state government revenues and expenses, how would you do it? In the private sector if one is not profitable one does not stay in business for very long. I intend to propose legislation in the state through a program called, "Money well spent." This program will look to reduce cost in the state's failing and underprioritzed programs by about 30 percent. Do you support the initiative to raise the sales tax 1 penny to raise money for schools and higher education? Yes I support providing adequate funding for schools and higher education. However, I don't believe a sales tax approach is the best approach. Instead we need to allocate existing funds towards efficiency programs that bring forth real results. Are you happy with Washington's new primary? Are you supporting the initiative that would give Washington a "top 2" primary system that the parties oppose? I'm concerned with the discontent of our state's residents with the new primary system. When elected I will support the system that best represents the voters of my district. Regardless of the forum, I support a system that allows for everyone to express oneself. What do you think of the initiative to expand the use of slot machines to reduce taxes? I'm concerned that the social cost will outweigh the immediate state revenues. However I also am equally concerned with fair competition in this state.
