Questions for candidates

What are the biggest differences between you and your opponent(s)? TAXES - Our state’s budget has gotten us in trouble in the past and created huge deficits. I believe that our families should not have to pay for past mistakes. To protect family incomes, I will work hard to defeat any new taxes. EDUCATION - Provide solid support for K-12 education with adequate funding to strengthen our schools. Our national and state Constitutions should be taught in school. I learned the history of the Founding Fathers and our national Constitution when I studied to become a United States citizen. I believe every citizen should know his or her own history so they can be proud of themselves as Americans. TRANSPORTATION - Fixing traffic congestion on the West Seattle Bridge and transportation problems throughout the 34th district. If we spend our transportation dollars on projects that are designed to relieve congestion and improve safety, the transportation issues can be resolved. CRIMES - Visible crime and drug activities are problems in our community. In the White Center and Delridge neighborhoods, these activities have created an unsafe living environment throughout the 34th district. As your representative in Olympia, I will work hard for funding to make sure our district is safe, building a stronger community in which to raise our families. ECONOMY - Creating a positive atmosphere to encourage new businesses, new jobs and protecting existing small businesses in the 34th District. The small businesses in our state provide at least 70 percent of the jobs in our state’s economy. The State Legislature and the Governor can fix the problems if they have the determination to work together. This would ensure that Washington’s workers have more and better job opportunities.

What are your highest priorities for state government? If you had to close the projected $1 billion gap between state government revenues and expenses, how would you do it? My highest priorities for state government are: * No New Tax Increases * Creation of Local Jobs * Citizens Safety and Security * Supporting Better Educational System. If I had to close the projected $1 billion gap, I would cut unnecessary government projects and spending.

Do you support the initiative to raise the sales tax 1 penny to raise money for schools and higher education? I do not support to raise any new taxes; Washingtonians already pay higher taxes. I do support better a educational system so our current and future generations can succeed. But we have to work with previously passed levies and bonds. If necessary, we can reform or cut unnecessary spending toward the projects which waste taxpayer money.

Are you happy with Washington's new primary? Are you supporting the initiative that would give Washington a "top 2" primary system that the parties oppose? No

What do you think of the initiative to expand the use of slot machines to reduce taxes? Over the years, in my community I have seen many people suffer financial ruin with gambling. I do not agree with the expansion of gambling to reduce taxes, it does not fit together.
