Campaign theme: Tony Moore Cares About the Issues that Matter to You
Questions for candidatesWhat are the biggest differences between you and your opponent(s)? He has been in Olympia for six years and has failed to produce on the issues that matter to the people of this district: creating jobs and reviving our stagnant economy, promoting our public schools, and improving our healthcare system. He hasn't led on education issues in the House and voted to authorize charter schools, diverting resources from our public schools. He also voted against the comprehensive tort reform we need to keep doctors in Washington State. We differ on these major issues. What are your highest priorities for state government? If you had to close the projected $1 billion gap between state government revenues and expenses, how would you do it? We must, first and foremost, fully fund our children's education. Second, we must ensure that government provides an equal playing field to all people and businesses and allows us to succeed without undue interference. I would look to make additional cuts without hurting the needy and vulnerable among us. I believe that after comprehensive audits and reforms are completed we will have a better understanding of where cuts can be made and in which agencies. Do you support the initiative to raise the sales tax 1 penny to raise money for schools and higher education? No. Our citizens cannot endure yet another tax increase, especially a 15.3% increase in our sales tax. This increase will hurt the poorer among us the most. Additionally, the trust fund is setup in such a way that after a few years the legislators will be able to raid it for non-education programs. This initiative will hurt more than it helps. Are you happy with Washington's new primary? Are you supporting the initiative that would give Washington a "top 2" primary system that the parties oppose? I am not pleased with the new primary system. I supported the Blanket Primary and am supporting the initiative to reinstate the Top Two system. What do you think of the initiative to expand the use of slot machines to reduce taxes? While I do not support the expansion of gambling, I believe it is the government's responsibility to provide a fair and equal playing field for all businesses and all people in the state.
