Mark Cross Mark Cross

Age: 53

Residence: Sammamish

Occupation: Urban planner

Education: B.A., urban planning, University of Washington

Community/political experience: Involved in both Sammamish incorporation efforts. Active in supporting development of East Lake Sammamish trail.

Campaign Web site: none

Questions:

1. How will you address your top three priorities for the position?
My priorities are to develop sports fields, acquire key park parcels while they are available and support completion of the East Lake Sammamish Trail. I would help improve our working relationship with school districts, cities and other jurisdictions to solve mutual problems.

2. What would you bring to this position that sets you apart from other candidates?
My education and experience as an urban planner set me apart. I have worked both in public and private positions related to planning and development for 30 years. As the city develops its development codes and makes decisions about land use, my experience will be an important asset on the council.

3. In a time of strapped budgets, how could your city save money or generate more revenue?
Working with public and private agencies to develop solutions to mutual problems, such as a lack of sports fields, will be key. The city needs to have an ongoing dialogue with the business community to support our commercial sector. The city must look for balance in funding roads and parks.
