State Supreme Court (6-year term)
Highest level in the state-court system. The court consists of nine members serving staggered, six-year terms. The court hears cases on appeal from Superior Court and the state Court of Appeals, sets court rules and procedures and reviews disciplinary actions against lawyers and judges. Salary: $134,584.

The superior courts in Washington state are the courts of general jurisdiction. They have exclusive jurisdiction over felony matters, real-property rights, domestic relations, estates, mental illness, juvenile and civil cases over $50,000.
