State Supreme Court (6-year term)
Highest level in the state-court system. The court consists of nine members serving staggered, six-year terms. The court hears cases on appeal from Superior Court and the state Court of Appeals, sets court rules and procedures and reviews disciplinary actions against lawyers and judges. Salary: $134,584.

Court of Appeals (6-year term)
Hears legal appeals from the Superior Court. The court has the authority to reverse, remand, modify or affirm the decision of the lower court. Appeals from the Court of Appeals go to the Washington state Supreme Court. Judges serve six-year terms and receive an annual salary of $128,116.

Superior Court (4-year term)
The superior courts in Washington state are the courts of general jurisdiction. They have exclusive jurisdiction over felony matters, real-property rights, domestic relations, estates, mental illness, juvenile and civil cases over $50,000. The superior courts also hear appeals from courts of limited jurisdiction. Salary: $121,972.
