1.  What is your position on the initiatives proposed on this year's November ballot?
  I-713 - Animal trapping yes
  I-722 - Property taxes no
I-728 - School district financing yes
  I-729 - Charter schools no
  I-732 - Teacher raises no
  I-745 - Transportation funding no

2.  Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has declared blanket primary elections like Washington's violate political parties' constitutional rights, what form of new primary election system would you propose adopting?
If it would pass the constitutional test, I would like to see us broaden how we currently do presidential primaries to all primary elections. In other words, you would not have to register in a specific party prior to the election but would declare a party at the polls.

3.  Would you continue the trend of recent years and support tax cuts for businesses? Which ones specifically? If not, why?
I believe that any future tax cuts should first be geared toward the individual citizen as they have not enjoyed much relief from the tax cuts that were given to business. I would support business tax cuts aimed at attracting into our state new businesses that would provide family-wage jobs.

4.  Would you support a Constitutional amendment that would allow tax breaks for homeowners but not for business or commercial property? Why or why not?
Yes, I would support a constitutional amendment that would benefit homeowners because as you mentioned above, in recent years most of the tax breaks have been for businesses.

5.  What privacy legislation would you support? Would you exempt financial institutions? Why or why not?
I support legislation that would ensure that our personal information could not be sold from one business to another. I would not exempt financial institutions from the legislation because I believe that we as individuals should have the right to decide who has access to our financial history.

6.  A commission studying transportation funding says a new financing mechanism is needed to keep Washington transportation projects on track. How would you propose financing future transportation projects?
I strongly believe that we need to find a permanent revenue stream that would be kept outside of the general fund so that transportation is not competing with education and social services for funds and that this could be accomplished by authorizing a sales tax on gas.

7.  With some states reconsidering the death penalty, what is your position and what changes, if any, do you think are needed in Washington's law? Under what circumstances would you support a moratorium?
I oppose the death penalty as I do not believe that it serves the purpose of deterring crime. At the least I believe that Washington should proceed with a moratorium and examine the concerns regarding the use of the death penalty in disproportionate numbers for minorities.

8.  A judge struck down Initiative 695's provision that would have required a public vote for all tax and fee increases. Would you support a Constitutional amendment that would require the public vote? Why or why not?
I do not support a constitutional amendment. I believe that it is the role of the Legislature to adopt the budget and the role of each individ ual legislator to represent their constituents in that process.
