Describe your philosophy on how the state should manage its public lands. Talk specifically about how you would approach resolving conflicts between
resource protection and resource use or extraction.
| |
With great wisdom, the writers of our state constitution gave us an incredible legacy of more than 5 million acres of resource lands. Properly managed, these diverse resources can provide financial stability, recreational opportunities, wildlife habitat and educational facilities. Public involvement and collaborative negotiation will resolve many conflicts. |

| 2. |
How would you balance management of state-owned timber lands for
recreation, so that natural resources -- such as threatened or endangered
species -- are protected, but money for school construction is maximized?
| |
A balance between needed school construction and environmental preservation can be attained. It takes broad-based, responsive management over time: Determine inventory and sensitive lands, define buffers for threatened species and actively manage the balance. Access for recreation should be maintained with user cooperation ensuring healthy forests and clean water. |

What do you think should be done about people who live illegally aboard
boats?
| |
I don't believe "live-aboard" moorage in a properly designed marina is either illegal or environmentally insensitive. Some anchorages or buoy moorage could be illegal, and with the cooperation of local law enforcement, these vessels should be removed. |
