| 1. |
Describe your philosophy on how the state should manage its public lands. Talk specifically about how you would approach resolving conflicts between
resource protection and resource use or extraction.
|
 |
| |
The lands of this state should not be a battlefield of special interests but a resource both economic and aesthetic that all parties agree must be managed cooperatively with an eye to the future and the needs of all the people of the state. |
| |
| 2. |
How would you balance management of state-owned timber lands for
recreation, so that natural resources -- such as threatened or endangered
species -- are protected, but money for school construction is maximized?
|
 |
| |
In allowing timber harvest, I will continue to keep in mind the necessities of modern technology to prevent long-term damage to fish and wildlife and erosion so that more than just timber production is sustained, at the same time encouraging the recreational use of all of our natural resources. |
| |
| 3. |
What do you think should be done about people who live illegally aboard
boats?
|
 |
| |
The dramatic increases in numbers of live-aboards and the appearance of so-called "barges" has shown to be a potential threat. If caution is not used the risk of pollution, the changing of the purpose of marinas and the overtaxing of our capacity will in fact cause damage. |
