| THOMAS JAMES HURST / THE SEATTLE TIMES |
| A purple ribbon stirs in the breeze along Winthrop's main street July 15. The ribbon and several others adorning the streets of Winthrop serve as silent memorials to the four firefighters killed July 10 while battling the Thirty Mile Fire in Okanogan County. The fire which has already consumed more than 10,000 acres is the deadliest in the state since 1974. |
