Patti Caney, who has been Debra's caregiver the longest, wipes paint from Debra's cheek after a crafts project. Some days, Debra is happy and content doing simple crafts, and some days she just cries. "I never tell her, 'Don’t cry, it’s going to be OK.' Because that’s not true," Caney says. "Validating her feelings is what I do."
