Thousand Island Dressing Makes about 2 cups Introduced at The Thousand Islands Inn in upstate New York around the turn of the last century, Thousand Island was created by the innkeeper's wife, a certain Sophia Lalonde. Ms. Lalonde shared the recipes with guests, one of them the actress May Irwin, who in turn shared it with George Boldt, owner of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Boldt persuaded his maitre d' to serve it in the hotel dining room, and from there the dressing was introduced to the world.
1 cup mayonnaise 1. In a small bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, chili sauce, pickle relish and lemon juice.
2. Grate the hard-boiled egg over the bowl and stir until well-combined. Serve at once or keep refrigerated for up to one week.
