In the season of harvest,
we have abundance - in writing

When Oprah announced earlier this year that she was cancelling her book club for lack of titles she felt "absolutely compelled to share," we thought, first: what a shame! and second: what could she be thinking! Worthy books are being published by the bucketload (bad ones, too, but that's another story).

As testament, here's our list of fall books highlights - new books by Stephen King, John Updike, Michael Chabon (set in our own back yard, no less), Milan Kundera, Tim O'Brien, Zadie Smith, Alice McDermott, Anna Quindlen, Maeve Binchy, Dave Barry, Michael Connelly, Anne Lamott and Scott Turow.

And that's just the fiction.

There's also a separate list of books that consider the many implications of the Sept. 11 anniversary in today's Seattle Times special section on 9/11 and its aftermath.
