Resat Kasaba is a professor of international studies at the Jackson School, where he's taught since 1985. He was born in Turkey and has been in the United States since 1976. His area of focus is social history and politics of the Middle East.

He said it: Partly because of the track record of the U.S. foreign policy in the area, people are not really convinced that a democracy is automatically on the horizon. And they are really afraid that the alternative they face is either chaos or a prolonged foreign occupation.
