Daniel Chirot is director and chairman of international studies at the UW's Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. He is a professor of sociology and international studies who specializes in the study of ethnic and religious conflicts around the world. He was born in France. Among his books was, in 1994, "Modern Tyrants: The Power and Prevalence of Evil in Our Age."

He said it: The first big mistake was to stop the war against Iraq in 1991. Not only was it a mistake to let Saddam Hussein go, but then we perpetuated the mistake, and this is part of our problem right now in Iraq.
