Below are menus from early Puget Sound ferries (click on them to see them enlarged). The S.S. Flyer was the hardiest of the Mosquito Fleet steamers running between Seattle and Tacoma for many years through the turn of the century. The undated menu features bacon and liver for 30 cents and sardines on toast for 40 cents. The Iroquois, one of the bigger Black Ball steamers, was brought around from the Great Lakes in the early 20th Century. A complete Christmas dinner was $1.25 in 1936. The Kalakala is the only one of these vessels that came over from Black Ball to the state's fleet in 1950. Pie and coffee were 15 cents on this undated lunch counter menu. Tell us what kind of food service the ferries should offer. Photo, menus and historical notes courtesy of Paul Dorpat.
