Highway 99 Blues Club
Reader rating: Rate it now
Seattle's small but vibrant blues scene got a big pick-me-up when the 7,000-square-foot Highway 99 opened at 1414 Alaskan Way. Under the Viaduct and across from the Seattle Aquarium, it extends the Pioneer Square blues theme a few blocks north and west, and "definitely" will try to attract waterfront tourists, says co-owner Patrick Evans. Evans, formerly a Wild Ginger bartender, was quick to add that he and his business partners, former Toi manager Garrett Clayton and musician Steve Sarkowsky, are connecting with the local blues community, and boasts of being "Seattle's only full-time blues club." The club, on the ground floor of a turn-of-the-20th-century brick building, has a new-old feeling as it attempts to recreate an authentic Chicago blues joint. Music starts at 8:30 on weeknights, 9 on the weekends.
