Former Washington assistant back in the Pac-, er, 12
Posted by Jayda Evans
Former Washington assistant coach Willette White was named to Utah coach Anthony Levrets' staff on Monday. A native of Tacoma, White was with the Huskies from 1986-93.
Working on Chris Gobrecht's staff, White helped the UW compile a 181-59 record, win three conference titles, and reach the NCAA Tournament seven times. In 1990 the Huskies were Pac-10 co-champs, earned a top seed in the NCAA tournament Mideast Region, finished with a school-record 28 wins and were ranked third in the nation at the end of the year, the team's highest ranking ever.
Since working on Montlake, White has spent time on Oregon and UCLA's benches which will provide her with plenty of conference experience as it transitions to the Pac-12. She wasn't coaching the past two seasons, however.
"We are thrilled to add someone of Willette's caliber to our program," said Levrets in a released statement. "With her 27 years of experience including 18 years in the Pac 10, she is one of the most respected coaches and recruiters on the west coast and we are excited to add her to our basketball family."
In other news, former Xavier recruit Sarah Hartwell of Tacoma's Bellarmine Prep High School signed with Georgia Tech in April. Hartwell requested to be released from her National Letter of Intent after coach Kevin McGuff was hired at Washington.
