Storm releases 2010 schedule

The WNBA opens its historic (aren't they all?) 14th season on May 15 with five games. Reigning MVP Diana Taurasi, SG Cappie Pondexter the rest of the defending champion Phoenix begin the action when they host Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks at 11 a.m. on ESPN2. The Mercury will receive their rings in a pregame ceremony.
The Tulsa franchise, whose name will be announced in January, debuts at BOK Center against the Minnesota Lynx that evening to close out the league's busy opening day.
Los Angeles travels to play Seattle in its opener on May 16 at KeyArena at 7 p.m. The Sparks are continuing tradition, helping the Storm with its opening-day festivities and traveling long stints to begin the season because of scheduling at Staples Center.
But this year, just four of LA's opening six games are on the road. Connecticut, however, goes on the road from June 27 to July 14 (six games).
While the Sparks are a familiar Western Conference rival, Tulsa is a new addition. Formerly the Detroit Shock, which split with Seattle (2-2) the two years under Storm coach Brian Agler, the soon-to-be-named team will play the Storm four times.
With 12 teams in the league, Seattle will play LA and Phoenix five times apiece. The Storm plays the remaining three division foes in four-game, regular-season series.
The Storm has four games on ESPN2, including a home matchup against Phoenix on July 27 at 6:30 p.m. The popular "Kid's Day" matchup is July 6 against former Storm coach Anne Donovan and the New York Liberty. Tip-off is at noon.
