Seattle University signs first player under new reign
Posted by Jayda Evans
Seattle University coach Joan Bonvicini was proud to announce her first signing of the season today. She nabbed Ashley Ward from Woodbridge High in Irvine, Calif.
Ward is a 5-10 G who was named co-CIF Player of the Year, averaging 18.5 points as a junior. She'll join G Amani Butler (5-6), an Arizona transfer, as part of the incoming class for the Redhawks next season. But Bonvicini is working on two signings for the spring.
"We just got a late start," she said of being hired in August after 17 seasons of coaching at Arizona.
SU is transitioning into Division I as an Independent. Its regular-season opener is 7 p.m. on Friday against UC Davis at the Connolly Center.
