Washington closes out exhibition play around the Pacific Northwest with a matchup against Corban College tonight at Edmundson Pavilion. The Huskies defeated the Warriors, a NAIA school, last year with sophomore G Kristi Kingma scoring 22 points in a 92-57 decision.

UW coach Tia Jackson will start the same lineup used in the close win against Seattle Pacific, recognizing that senior Laura McLellan played better off the bench last season. C Regina Rogers is pegged to play better with first-time jitters gone and knowledge that officials are watching her. She'll be flanked by senior F Sami Whitcomb and guards Kingma, Sara Mosiman and PG Sarah Morton in the starting unit.

Over the weekend, Gonzaga defeated Warner Pacific 100-42 in its sole exhibition game of the season. Junior PG Courtney Vandersloot (Kentwood) led six players to finish scoring in double figures with 18. Teammate Vivian Frieson (Garfield) finished with seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.

ESPN featured the Zags today as a team to watch.

Washington State and Seattle University also ended exhibition play on positive notes this weekend. The Cougars easily toppled Eastern Oregon 94-52 on Sunday, led by sophomore G April Cook's 17 points. Prized recruit Carly Noyes, a 6-foot-5 center from Moses Lake, added 12.

Seattle U beat Saint Martins 70-44. But coach Joan Bonvicini didn't think her team started the lopsided win well, acting impatient. Senior center Tatiana Heck helped calm her team, leading with 14 points in 21 minutes.

The buzz up here and nothing to do with the local schools, however. WNBA legend Sheryl Swoopes returned to the court, playing for Idol Sports in an exhibition matchup against Montana. Only the three-time MVP (pictured right by the Missoulian) wasn't enough to get the win as her team fell to the Griz 77-57.

Swoopes, who is staying in shape in hopes of returning to the pros, finished with 31 points and 15 boards. She was forced into six turnovers, yet Griz coach Robin Selvig told reporters that he was impressed with her instincts.

Meanwhile, Swoopes' former Storm teammate Ashley Robinson, a 6-4 center, exhibited the modeling skills many often ask if she'll use after her playing days are over. Having modeled in the past, Robinson is more into cosmetics; still she's a natural on the runway and advocate of women highlighting their feminine side.

She modeled for the Seattle Goodwill's Glitter Gala on Thursday. The only Storm player not currently signed with an overseas team, Robinson was in town last week with coach Brian Agler to promote the team around the Puget Sound. Agler even participated in an online chat with CEO Karen Bryant.
