Storm All-Star Sue Bird out

Posted by Jayda Evans

Bird10.jpgStorm PG Sue Bird (pictured right by the WNBA) will miss her third consecutive game due to a sore neck. Bird is feeling better, but coach Brian Agler doesn't want to risk the injury with nothing really on the line for Seattle.

The Storm clinched the second overall seed in the West on Sept. 5 and Los Angeles' win against Minnesota on Friday assured the Sparks would be the Storm's first-round opponent regardless of what happens against San Antonio tonight.

Signee A'Quonesia Franklin remains on the roster to add backcourt depth while veteran Shannon Johnson will start in place of Bird. The Storm also is without PF Lauren Jackson (back), SF Swin Cash (funeral), and reserve F Katie Gearlds.

Agler and Bird are concerned about rhythm going into the postseason. But Seattle is traveling to Los Angeles on Sunday and will practice with Bird and Cash to prepare for the postseason. Jackson also is slated to meet the team in LA, but her return remains doubtful due to the stress fractures in her lower back.

Meanwhile San Antonio will be without PG Becky Hammon and F Sophia Young. Erin Perperoglou and Edwige Lawson-Wade will start in their place, giving the All-Stars time to rest before hosting No. 1 seed Phoenix on Thursday in Game 1 of the first round.
