Topsy-turvy spring weather continued its assault on Western Washington this morning with snow, hail, rain and lightning.

Snow and hail melted before they had the chance to accumulate in Seattle, but a snow convergence zone above Snohomish County overnight left some cities with close to a foot of snow. Clearview reported more than 10 inches, Woodinville and Everett reported more than 6 inches this morning.

Some areas of Snohomish County probably saw record snowfall for this time of the year, said Johnny Burg, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Temperatures have been cold to cool today, with the thermometer at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport bouncing from a near-record low of 34 degrees early in the day to the mid-40s by late afternoon.

The last time Seattle-area residents contended with snow this late in the season was more than three decades ago, when Sea-Tac reported snow on April 17, 1972, Burg said.

Meteorologists say the hodgepodge of snow, rain, thunder and lightning could continue through Sunday.

Temperatures should gradually return to normal next week, with Friday expected to be in the upper 50s, Burg said.
