Delta, Northwest add $5 checked bag surcharge
Delta, Northwest add $5 surcharge for checked bags, matching moves by Continental, US Airways and United.
Seattle Times travel writer
Northwest Airlines and Delta Air Lines has added a $5 surcharge on domestic flights for the first two checked bags unless fees are prepaid online, matching moves by Continental, US Airways and United Airlines.
Delta and Northwest already charge $15 for the first checked bag and $25 for the second checked bag. The new $5 surcharges will apply to tickets purchased after July 16 for travel on or after August 4. Fees remain the same if paid online instead of at airport curbsides or check-in desks.
Delta is in the process of combining its operations with Northwest Airlines which it bought last year. Delta and Northwest posted a combined second-quarter of $257 million Wednesday.
