Trains, buses and roads. Gas deals: a samplingHotels and attractions nationwide are trying to lure road-tripping tourists this summer with special programs that pay for gasoline. Here's a sampling of the deals being offered. Remember to ask for the promotion at the time of booking, and be sure to save gas receipts, because they often must be presented upon arrival or mailed in with a rebate certificate. Room rates are per night based on double occupancy; deals were available as of press time. Online Booking Sites — Get reimbursed for $50 in fuel purchases by staying at one of 17,000 vacation rental properties managed by ResortQuest (800-467-3529, www.resortquest.com) in the United States and British Columbia, Canada. A minimum stay is required; offer is good through Dec. 31. Mention the code "GAS" for properties in the East or "GAW" for those in the West and Canada. — More than 250 B&B members of Bed and Breakfast.com (800-462-2632, www.bedandbreakfast.com) offer a variety of bonuses, including vouchers up to $50, gas cards and discounts based on how powerful your car engine is. For a list of participating B&Bs, go to the site and choose "Advanced Search" and "Special packages," then "Free Gas Promotion" from the pull-down menu. Among the deals: Two dozen inns in Lancaster County, Pa., give $25 credits for two-night midweek stays. Doubles from $68. The Backyard Garden Oasis in Middletown, Calif., will apply a $25 fuel credit toward the cost of a massage. Doubles from $125. Stay two or more midweek nights at one of three inns in Rockland, Maine, and get a $10 discount for every cylinder your car's engine has, up to $80. The deal also includes an all-you-can- eat seafood dinner. Doubles from $260. — BookIt.com (888-782-9722, www.bookit.com) is offering $25 and $50 gas cards at select hotels and resorts, including the Summer Bay Resort on a 64-acre lake in Orlando, Fla. (from $69). A minimum stay is required; book before June 30 for travel through September. Citywide Promotions — In Aspen, Colo., receive a $50 gas card for use at a local gas station — plus free parking, bike rentals for a day or a gondola ride — if you stay at one of 14 participating hotels before October. Call 800-670-0788 or book online at www.aspenchamber.org and mention the "gas package."
— Stay at a participating hotel in Traverse City, Mich., anytime before Labor Day and receive a $25 gas card from the Traverse City Convention and Visitors Bureau (800-714-0051, www.mytraversecity.com). Hotel Offerings — New York is a hotbed of offers, including these: Hybrid-driving guests of the chic Muse Hotel (877-692-6873, www.themusehotel.com; from $199) receive a copy of "Honku: The Zen Antidote to Road Rage," plus a $20 credit. Leave your car at home during a July trip and get reimbursed for two day-long, unlimited-ride Metro cards; two round-trip transfers to La Guardia or Kennedy airports; and free breakfast if you stay at one of five Apple Core hotels (800-567-7720, www.applecoreshotels.com/promos/summer; $160). Refer to the promo code word "summer." Get up to $30 in fuel costs credited on your bill at the Paramount (212-764-5500, www.nycparamount.com; from $285) for two-night stays or longer June 29-Sept. 4. Ask for the "gasoline" package; two-night minimum required. — Hybrid car owners get free parking — usually $28 a day — at Washington's Hotel Madera (202-296-7600, www.hotelmadera.com; from $129) off Dupont Circle. — Stay at the Wintergreen Resort (800-926- 3723, www.wintergreenresort.com; from $126), just southwest of Charlottesville, Va., for three nights or more before Aug. 31 and get up to $75 in gas purchases credited on your bill. Mention the "Get Away Soon" promotion. — Colonial Capital B&B (800-776-0570, www.ccbb.com; from $145) in Williamsburg, Va., gives $25 in discounts to guests who drove up to 100 miles to get to the inn (or $30 for up to 200 miles, $35 up to 300 miles or $40 for more than 300 miles.). — Get a $10 gas card for each day you stay at Grandma's Cottage B&B (877-241-8113, www.grandmascottagebb.com; from $79) in Port Republic, Va., near Harrisonburg. — The four-star, pueblo-style Eldorado Hotel and Spa (800-955-4455, www.eldoradohotel.com; from $169) in Santa Fe, N.M., will give a fuel credit of $50 for stays Sunday through Thursday through July. A two-night minimum is required. — Various Best Western franchises have promotions. Among them (go to www.best western.com for links to the different properties): The Best Western Palm Beach Lakes Inn (800-331-9569; $99) in Palm Beach, Fla., gives a $25 gas card (or a $25 gift certificate to a nearby restaurant if you're carless). The Best Western Tuscan Inn (800-648-4626; from $159) at Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco offers a $20 Shell gas station card for one night's stay if you mention the "Vroom Special" when booking. In Salt Lake City, the Best Western Executive Inn (800-253-0512; $79.95) hands out a $15 gas card for each night's stay (plus free breakfast). Ask for the "Gas and Go" package. — In Orlando, nab a $25 gas card by staying at the Holiday Inn Orlando North (407-862-4455, www.holidayinn.com; from $72) in nearby Altemonte Springs, Fla., or a $10 gas card from the Hawthorn Suites Universal (800-228-2027, www.orlandosuites.com; from $89.95).
