LAS VEGAS — Transportation officials called off a promotional ride on new double-decker buses and security was stepped up Thursday on the Las Vegas Monorail in response to transit system bombings in London.

Plans still call for putting a fleet of 50 double-decker buses on the Las Vegas Strip, said Shannon Stevens, spokeswoman for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.

But officials felt it would be inappropriate to unveil the buses Thursday after explosions on three subway trains and on a double-decker bus in London.

Monorail trains were searched with bomb-sniffing dogs before the elevated transit system began operations Thursday, and guards patrolled its seven stations. The monorail runs on a Z-shaped track between several major Las Vegas hotel-casinos and the Las Vegas Convention Center.
