State to open electric-car charging stations along I-5 corridor

A network of nine roadside electric-car charging stations will open in Washington around November, says a contractor for the $1.million project.
The state is expected to announce Wednesday that AeroVironment EV will install the stations at retail sites near Interstate 5 from Canada to Everett; I-5 from Olympia to Oregon; and Highway 2 from Everett to Leavenworth.
Each site will include a fast-charging station that refills a Nissan Leaf in about half an hour, and a slower station to top off a Chevy Volt or plug-in Toyota Prius, Vice President Kristen Helsel said. Locations haven’t been chosen but will be 30 to 50 miles apart, she said.
Washington, Oregon and California are building a “West Coast Green Highway” to serve 1,350 miles and 2 million vehicles by the end of this decade.
