Mount Rainier to reopen major entrance after flood repairs
Mount Rainier National Park to reopen Nisqually entrance, which gives access to Paradise area, after flood-damaged road is repaired

The main entrance to Mount Rainier National Park is reopening on Friday after being closed for more than a week because of flooding.
The park's Nisqually entrance road, which gives access to the popular Paradise area on the south side of Mount Rainier, will open at 6.a.m. Friday, park superintendent Dave Uberuaga said Thursday. Paradise is the major road-accessible area of the park that remains open year round; many other roads in the park already are closed for the winter season.
The park's Nisqually entrance was closed after heavy rainfall on Nov. 11 and 12 caused Kautz Creek to jump its channel and flood and erode the road, as it did during the 2006 floods that devastated park roads and trails. Repairs in the past week included the installation of new culverts.
For Mount Rainier information, see www.nps.gov/mora or phone 360-569-2211.
