Q: My kids (two teens) and I have gone to Cannon Beach every summer for a week or two. We'd like to try another spot on the Oregon Coast, perhaps farther south (even Northern California) in search of better weather. We want to tent-camp (or rent a cheap cabin) this time, but I'd prefer not to rough it too much. Any suggestions for a place with maybe a few more amenities than is usual for a campground?

A: Oregon state parks have what might be just right for you — yurts and simple cabins for rent in many coastal-park campgrounds. The yurts have a few more creature comforts than tents but are still very reasonably priced. You can get details at www.oregon.gov/oprd/parks/cabins.shtml. You could stay in relative luxury at the Umpqua Lighthouse State Park, which rents out "deluxe yurts" with a small dining area, shower and even a TV.— Kristin Jackson, Seattle Times Travel writer
