Add a sack of compost to your luggage at Portland airport

Portland airport is handing out sacks of compost from its food waste to travelers

PORTLAND, Ore. — That's not just your dirty laundry that smells funny.

Travelers returning through Portland International Airport today will be offered free compost as part of the Port of Portland's celebration of its environmental efforts.

Airport restaurants, flight kitchens, airlines and nearby businesses turn a ton of food waste a day into compost.

The port will distribute hundreds of bags of the free compost to interested travelers from 10 a.m. until all of it is gone. Staff will be handing out the compost on the

skybridges that connect the airport terminal to the parking garage.
