Be ready for busy border crossings this weekend between Washington, B.C.
This could be a busy weekend at U.S.-Canada border crossings as British Columbians visit Washington over their four-day weekend.
Good Friday and the Monday after Easter are holidays for many Canadians, with businesses and schools closed.
The strong Canadian dollar means more British Columbians have been coming to Washington to shop and vacation (and buy cheaper gas, roughly a dollar a gallon less in the state than in B.C.). That's already been making the border crossings at Blaine and other parts of Western Washington busy on weekends, with a surge likely over the Easter weekend.
Travelers can check on border-crossing congestion at www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/Border/ Starting next month, drivers should be aware of a major Interstate-5 repaving project coming up in Bellingham.
The Washington State Department of Transportation says crews will close lanes at night and on weekends starting April 1 and continuing into May. There also will be four weekend-long closures where one lane of I-5 in each direction between Samish Way and Sunset Drive will be closed for repaving. Some on- and offramps also will be closed. .Get information on the I-5 repaving and see a map at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I5/36thStToSlaterRdRepairs/
