Snow in the mountains, thunderstorms for lowlands?

Posted by Jim Brunner

Washington's frigid April continues, with a storm system dumping about a foot of snow in some parts of the Cascades overnight.

The system could bring hail, freezing rain or thunderstorms to Seattle and surrounding areas on Thursday.

"Typical February weather," said Mike McFarland, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle.

The dismal spring has a silver lining for skiers, as Crystal Mountain remains open, with more than eight inches of fresh snow. "Pretty nice skiing for this late in the season," McFarland said.

The clouds are predicted to stick around through Friday. But Saturday should be partly sunny with a high near 55, and Sunday's forecast calls for mostly sunny weather with a high near 65, according to the National Weather Service.
