Gusts cause power outages, spur small-craft advisory
Posted by Seattle Times staff
Gusts of up to 36 mph caused a variety of problems around western Washington Saturday afternoon, from scattered power outages to a delayed ferry to a small craft advisory for coastal and inland waters.
Fifteen outages knocked out power to about 900 of Seattle City Light’s customers as of 3 p.m., the utility reported on its website. Most of those outages were in the Queen Anne neighborhood.
Meanwhile, on the water, winds were expected to blow at between 24 mph and 38 mph until at least late Saturday night. The National Weather Service declared a small craft advisory – in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday – for the coast and for the northern inland waters, including the San Juan Islands, the Puget Sound and the Hood Canal.
Because of choppy waters attributable to high winds, the ferry Chetzemoka was running about 25 minutes late on Saturday afternoon. The delays affected the 12:45 p.m. sailing from Port Townsend and the 1:30 p.m. sailing from Coupeville.
In Seattle, winds are expected to calm this evening, dropping down to about seven to 10 mph. Sunday is expected to be calm and cloudy, with a high temperature of about 43.
