Snow "convergence zone" moving south from Everett

Posted by Jack Broom

A band of snow was falling in a “convergence zone” in the Everett area about 6 a.m., said Art Gaebel of the Weather Service. “We’re looking for that line to slip south as the day goes on. Some places will pick up snow and some won’t.”

State transportation crews were working to clear snow from Interstate 5 and several highways in the Everett and Mill Creek areas.

The Tacoma area was also seeing some snow.

Once the snow stops, which is expected by late morning, “We should be fine for the next couple of days,” with partly cloudy conditions and daytime temperatures in the 30s and low 40s.

University of Washington meteorologist Cliff Mass, on his blog, takes a look at some of the science behind trying to tell where snow may fall in this area when a system like today’s moves through.

“If the convergence zone revs up perhaps we might see a few inches near sea level in the central Sound,” said Mass. “If not, this could be a big bust for snow lovers in Seattle. Again, this is NOT November 22! The ground temps are above freezing and air temps are above freezing.”
