I-5 traffic causing big backups in South Lake Union
Posted by Bob Payne
A quick look out the window at The Seattle Times (at Fairview and John Street in South Lake Union area of Seattle) reveals gridlock on approach streets to the I-5 on-ramps at Mercer Street. These backups will cause the Route 70 bus headed north through Eastlake to be stopped too unless they find an end-around.
If you look at the WSDOT traffic flow map, you can see that I-5 northbound is at stop and go from essentially Boeing Field north through the city to North Seattle. Conditions are worse than usual not just because of the snow, but because of a decision not to open northbound express lanes on I-5 for this evening's commute.
