Poll: To which free agent(s) should the Mariners offer salary arbitration?

Posted by Larry Stone

Update, 5:30 p.m.: Thanks to everyone who voted -- all 2,704 at last check. You pretty much nailed it. The leading vote getter, with 38 percent, was "Adrian Beltre only", and that's exactly what the Mariners did -- offer arbitration only to Beltre. Thirty-six percent of you agreed with me that the M's should offer arbitration to both Beltre and Erik Bedard, but they decided the risk of Bedard accepting was too great, and didn't offer him. Sixteen percent voted for "neither Bedard nor Beltre," and 10 percent thought Bedard but not Beltre should be offered arbitration.

These polls are fun. I'm going to keep them coming.

As I detailed earlier, the deadline for offering salary arbitration to ranked free agents is Tuesday at 9 p.m. Seattle time. The Mariners have two Type B free agents to decide about: Erik Bedard and Adrian Beltre. If they offer arbitration, they'll get a sandwich pick between the first and second round if the player signs elsewhere. Ah, but they might accept arbitration, costing the Mariners a pretty penny in salary. There are pros and cons for either decision. What do you think?

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to see Beltre at third for another year. That way Jack Z could concentrate on two or three positions rather than...  Posted on December 1, 2009 at 2:12 PM by gatorator. Jump to comment
