Interesting feature on Scott Spiezio's comeback

Posted by Larry Stone

spiezio.jpgScott Spiezio has been the punchline of a lot of jokes, many of them told by me. But I wish him well in his current endeavor, which is to overcome the drug and alcohol problems that derailed his career. The Los Angeles Times today ran a nice story detailing Spiezio's comeback, at age 36 with the Orange County Flyers of the independent Golden Baseball League.

It's a longshot that Spiezio, who was released last year by both the Cardinals and the Braves, will ever make it back to the majors. But let's hope he can stay away from the demons that have messed up his life.
