UPDATE: Eastbound 1-90 was reopened at 11 p.m.

UPDATE: Eastbound I-90 remains closed from Milepost 115 to Milepost 122, according to the state Department of Transportation.

Westbound lanes are open, a dispatcher said.

EARLIER POST: The driver of a semi-tractor trailer was killed and several other motorists were injured Thursday on Interstate 90 east of Ellensburg after two collisions caused by a smoky fire.

The accidents were reported shortly after 3 p.m. after smoke from a fire in the median created limited-to-zero visibility, said Lt. Scott Martin of the State Patrol.

Traffic eastbound on I-90 is is being detoured, adding 15 to 20 minutes to travel time, Martin said.

The truck driver was killed after a collision involving two semis and a passenger car. The second collision involved seven vehicles, he said. Several people were injured and taken to hospitals, Martin said.

Traffic was stopped from Milepost 115 in Kittitas to Milepost 122.
